437th Troop Carrier Group: --SERIAL A-9 The men in this photo are 17th Airborne "Glide Riders" from Company C of the 194th Glider Infantry Company. The photo was taken just before take off to Landing Zone S, located north and slightly east of Wesel Germany. The airfield number is A-58 Coulommiers/Voisins Courcy, 62km (38.5 miles) east of Paris. Their glider is one of 80 gliders (Chalk 81 - 158) in serial A9 on duel tow by forty C-47. This was the first and only time duel tow was used in combat.
